7 Wonder of Ancient

              


  Colossus of Rhodes


 
 
The Colossus Of Rhode was a statue of the Greek titan-god of the sun Helios, erected in the city of Rhodes, on the Greek island of the same name by, Chares of Lindos in 280 BC. The Greek Titan Helios and was meant to celebrate their victory over the ruler of Cyprus in 305 BC. It was the tallest statues of the ancient world. ( 98.4 feet high ) and was stood only for 56years. The Colossus Of Rhode was destroyed by and earthquake in 226 BC. This statue was built for celebrate  Rhodes victory over the ruler of Cyprus( Antigonus & Monophthalmus). The Rhodians sold the equipment to built the Colossus Of Rhode after the ruler of Cyprus defeated.

 The Rhodes earthquake of 226 BC, which affected the island of Rhodes, Greece, is famous for having toppled the large statue known as the Colossus of Rhodes. Following the earthquake, the statue lay in place for nearly eight centuries before being sold off by invaders. While 226 BC is most often cited as the date of the quake, sources variously cite 226 or 227 BC as dates when it occurred.



5 INTERESTING FACTS THAT  YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT COLOSSUS OF RHODES!
  1.   The statue was built using brass and iron.
  2.  The Colossus of Rhodes stood on a 50 foot high white marble pedestal. 
  3.  Colossus of Rhodes is symbol to freedom same also with The Statue of Liberty ( Modern Colossus )
  4.  Took 12 years to complete the construction.
  5. The feet were carved in stone and covered with thin bronze plates riveted together. 
  6.
